"You Will Need A Nin To Buy A Bag Of Rice For ₦40,000" The Nigerian Government.

The Nigerian government has announced that only citizens with National Identification Numbers (NIN) will be eligible to purchase 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice at a subsidised rate of ₦40,000 per 50kg bag. This directive was issued by President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, during a flag-off ceremony on Thursday.

The sale will be conducted under the "one person, one bag" policy, ensuring that each eligible individual can only purchase a single 50kg bag of rice. The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s effort to ease the burden of the ongoing food crisis in Nigeria.

Kyari emphasized the significance of this intervention, calling it timely given the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians. He also highlighted other government efforts to reduce food prices, such as the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities to vulnerable citizens.

To ensure fairness and transparency, a multi-disciplinary government task force has been set up to oversee the distribution and ensure the program's success. The subsidised rice will help alleviate the high cost of food in the country, providing some relief to struggling families.
