Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji and actress Mo Bimpe have become one of the most beloved celebrity couples in Nigeria. However, in a surprising revelation, Lateef shared that he didn’t like Mo Bimpe at all when they first met.
In a recent interview with The Nation, Lateef recounted their first encounter on a film set, where he felt Mo Bimpe was rude for not greeting him. According to Yoruba culture, greeting elders is a sign of respect, and her failure to do so left a bad impression on him.
Lateef explained, “We met on set. I met her on a set, but the first day I met her, o baje (she was mannerless) because she saw me and couldn’t greet me. I said, ‘Who is this, where did they find this person that does not know how to greet people?’ I told her point-blank that day. And I just walked away. That’s me.”
He continued, “Me, I would always ask questions. ‘Who is the producer?’ They said ‘Mo Bimpe.’ I said, ‘Who is that? Is that not the girl that does not greet people?’ They said it was her. I said I will charge her. This is how much I will collect. And then they paid my money and I did the job. For me, once I get to work, no matter who you are, no matter what it is, it is work first. I just face my work.”
As filming progressed, Lateef realized he would be acting alongside Mo Bimpe. He reached out to her, saying, “Hey. How are you? Don’t worry, don’t fidget, don’t do anything. I’m sure you can do this. We can work on this together, and we will achieve a good film.”
With this encouragement, their relationship blossomed from a rocky start to a deep friendship, ultimately leading to their love story today. Fans of the couple continue to admire their journey, marveling at how far they’ve come.
