Wunmi Aloba, widow of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, has recently agreed to a DNA test for her son, Liam, one year after Mohbad's passing. This decision marks a shift from her earlier stance, where she had firmly refused to pursue DNA testing. In an Instagram live session earlier this year, Wunmi had expressed her conviction, saying, “I will never do a DNA test. No one can tell me to do DNA on my son, Liam. Mohbad was the one who disvirgined me, and I have never slept with any man other than him in my entire life.”
However, a recent video shows her lawyer, Barrister Akingbolu, explaining Wunmi's change of heart. According to Akingbolu, Wunmi’s initial reluctance stemmed from the immense emotional strain she faced following Mohbad’s death. She experienced persistent pressure from her father-in-law, Mr. Joseph Aloba, who had reportedly called her character into question, publicly doubting Liam’s paternity. This scrutiny was compounded by relentless online criticism, as many on social media urged her to take the test despite her grief, casting suspicion on her loyalty to her late husband.
Akingbolu revealed that Mr. Aloba allegedly used media outlets to spread negative rumors about his daughter-in-law and grandson, casting shadows over Wunmi’s reputation and Liam’s identity. Akingbolu stated that Wunmi's decision to proceed with the DNA test—absent any court order—is a deliberate act of integrity and self-defense. She seeks not only to put any lingering doubts to rest but also to protect her son’s dignity and uphold Mohbad’s legacy amidst the intense public scrutiny she continues to face.
