Renowned Nollywood and Yoruba actor Peter Fatomilola has shared insights into his early years, revealing how his upbringing shaped his spiritual beliefs and acting career.
In an interview with Oyinmomo TV, the respected actor disclosed that he inherited Ifa worship from his father, who was the head of Ifa priests in Ilufusin, Ekiti. "I inherited Ifa from my father. It’s hereditary. When my father was alive, he was the head of Ifa priests in Ilufusin, Ekiti. Today, I am the head of the Ifa priests," he stated.
Despite his father’s strong influence, Fatomilola’s mother was a devoted Christian who wanted him to attend church with her. However, he preferred staying with his father to worship Ifa. "My mother was a Christian, and whenever she went to church, I wouldn’t follow her. She would get angry because I stayed back with my father to worship Ifa," he recalled.
To maintain peace at home, his father intervened and instructed him to accompany his mother to church every Sunday. "Due to their union, my father told my mother that whenever she was going to church on Sundays, she should always take me along. He also warned me that I must always get ready for church every Sunday to make my mother happy. I am my mother’s only child, which is why my father did his best to keep her happy," he explained.
Over time, Fatomilola began to see similarities between religious worship and the world of theater. His exposure to church activities, such as singing, dancing, and drama performances, introduced him to stage acting and became a turning point in his life. These experiences laid the foundation for his illustrious career in Nollywood.
Today, Fatomilola continues to uphold his Ifa heritage while embracing his artistic journey, proving that his diverse spiritual background has played a key role in shaping the man he is today.
