“We’re rewarding people for doing dumb things online” — Rapper Ycee speaks on the ‘Olodo uprising’ and Peller culture.

Nigerian rapper Ycee has expressed concern about what he describes as the declining value of education in Nigeria, warning that society is increasingly rewarding ignorance over academic achievement.

Speaking during a podcast interview, the rapper said the country’s educational system is facing serious challenges, including insecurity, poor leadership, and a lack of proper attention from those in authority.

According to Ycee, many young Nigerians no longer view education as a priority because internet fame, viral content, and quick financial success appear more attractive and rewarding.

The rapper argued that social media culture is encouraging a mindset where people believe they can achieve success simply by creating controversial or attention-grabbing content online.

Referring to popular content creator Peller, Ycee said the trend has evolved beyond what was previously known as “Yahoo culture” and has now entered what he called “Peller culture.”

He explained that when society consistently rewards individuals for doing outrageous things online, it sends the wrong message to younger generations, who may begin to believe that education and hard work are no longer necessary for success.

Ycee stressed that he has no personal issue with Peller and acknowledged that everyone has the right to earn a living. However, he questioned the long-term sustainability of a culture built primarily on internet popularity and viral moments.

The rapper concluded by warning that if the trend continues, more young people may focus on chasing online attention rather than investing in education and personal development, which he believes could have serious consequences for the future of the country.
