Nollywood actress Lola Alao has candidly shared the factors behind the breakdown of her two marriages, reflecting on painful experiences and the personal growth that emerged from them. In a heartfelt interview with Biola Adebayo on Talk-to-B, Alao discussed the challenges she faced in her relationships, admitting that a lack of patience was a significant factor in both separations.
Alao, known for her caring nature, revealed that despite her devotion, her tendency to act quickly in tough situations sometimes affected her marriages. “I was very caring, just as my mother taught me,” she shared, “but I didn’t have patience.” She recounted a particularly painful memory when her ex-husband was unfaithful in her presence, a betrayal she felt she couldn’t overlook. “I was very nice to my husband, but when he cheated, I had to tell him to leave,” she said.
Despite these hardships, Alao stated she has no regrets, emphasizing the importance of preserving her dignity. “Maybe I should have been more patient,” she admitted, “but I don’t regret my choices because my self-worth is non-negotiable.”
The actress also advised married women, urging them to remember that while facing challenges is part of any marriage, they should not lose their dignity in the process. She underscored the freedom she gained from leaving toxic relationships as more fulfilling than enduring hardship for the sake of appearances.
Alao’s first marriage was to automobile dealer Dare Ogunlana in 2002, with whom she has a daughter, Damilola. They eventually went their separate ways. Her second marriage, to Adewale Ajibola in 2013 in Atlanta, USA, ended within a year. Through her experiences, Alao says she’s learned the value of self-respect and the courage it takes to walk away from what no longer serves you.
