Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye Crowned Highest-Grossing Film Directors of 2024

Nigerian actress Funke Akindele and filmmaker Tunde Olaoye have achieved a remarkable milestone as the highest-grossing film directors of 2024. Their blockbuster movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, raked in an impressive ₦1.6 billion at the Nigerian box office. This announcement was made by FilmOne Entertainment via its official Instagram page, @filmoneng, on Wednesday.


Other directors also made notable contributions to Nigeria’s thriving film industry in 2024:


Adebayo Tijani secured second place with successful titles like Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju, Alakada Bad and Boujee, and Farmer’s Bride.


Kayode Kasum ranked third for his films Ajosepe, All’s Fair in Love, and What About Us.


Odunlade Adekola placed fourth with his works Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju and Lakatabu.


Adeoluwa Owu took the fifth spot for Queen Lateefah and When Love Strikes.


Toka McBaror emerged as the sixth highest-grossing director with The Waiter.


Jack Opukeme claimed the seventh position with Farmer’s Bride.


Bolanle Austen-Peters clinched the eighth spot for Funmilayo Ransome Kuti.


Biodun Stephen earned ninth place with Muri & Ko.


Omoni Oboli rounded out the top ten with Wives on Strike: The Uprising.


The rankings underscore the exceptional contributions of these directors to the Nigerian film industry, highlighting their ability to captivate audiences and achieve commercial success.
