The inclusion of legendary juju musician King Sunny Ade in Toyin Abraham’s latest blockbuster, Alakada: Bad and Boujee, has been unveiled as a creative choice aimed at adding depth and authenticity to the film. Premiered in cinemas on December 20, the movie boasts a star-studded cast, including Portable, Isbae U, and Opeyemi Famakin.
In an interview with Nollywood on Radio, Toyin Abraham revealed her decision to feature Sunny Ade stemmed from a desire to create a unique and unforgettable cinematic experience.
“I wanted a different feel, something real, especially as we portrayed Madam Sharon, a wealthy character throwing a lavish party,” Abraham shared. She emphasized her aim to surprise audiences with something “unbelievable,” setting her film apart from others.
While collaborating with the music icon came with challenges, Abraham described the experience as one of the highlights of her 2024. “Sunny Ade is such a father. Though he was paid, it wasn’t about the money. He was professional and supportive,” she added.
The film, the fifth installment in the Alakada series, has grossed over ₦400 million since its release, further cementing Abraham’s reputation as a Nollywood powerhouse.
Piracy Warning Following Cinema Incident
Meanwhile, Abraham addressed the issue of piracy after catching a fan recording the movie during a cinema screening. In a post on her X page, the actress disclosed that the individual deleted the footage and was released without consequences.
However, she issued a firm warning: “If anyone is caught again, I won’t intervene. Please stop recording; I am so tired.”
The actress pleaded with fans to support her work by avoiding piracy, ensuring the film’s continued success in theaters nationwide.
