Renowned Yoruba actress Adekemi Taofeek has shared her painful experience of being sidelined in the movie industry, revealing that a director’s harsh words made her quit filmmaking.
During an interview on Kunleafod TV’s official YouTube channel, the actress disclosed that she decided to step away from acting after a director dismissed her as “no longer relevant” following her marriage and the birth of her child.
Recalling a particular incident, Adekemi explained that she was invited to a movie location but ended up feeling deeply disrespected. Despite arriving on set and staying at a hotel with her child, she was not given a role. Instead, the director openly expressed a preference for another actress, stating that her two-year break had made her unsuitable for the industry.
“I stayed in the hotel until 3 a.m., hoping to be called for a role, but I wasn’t given any opportunity. The next day, I was asked to check out of the hotel. This experience broke me, and that was when I decided to stop acting,” she revealed.
Adekemi’s revelation has sparked conversations about the challenges actresses face after marriage, with fans and colleagues showing their support.
