Nollywood actress and filmmaker Dayo Amusa has spoken about her journey into motherhood, calling it the most fulfilling and meaningful achievement of her life.
In an emotional conversation with fellow actress Debbie Shokoya on the Motherhood with Mummy K program, Amusa shared her experiences, discussing the struggles, triumphs, and deep joy that come with being a mother.
“Motherhood is Fulfillment”
Reflecting on her personal challenges, Amusa admitted that despite her past mistakes, becoming a mother is the one thing she feels she truly got right.
"Motherhood is fulfillment. You kind of feel complete as a woman. That’s what motherhood means to me. Even if you’re not entirely whole, you still get the sense that you’ve accomplished something for yourself. I’ve made many mistakes in life, but being a mother is the one thing I know I did right," she expressed.
A Lifelong Dream Delayed by Fate
Amusa grew up in a loving and united family, always dreaming of having her own husband and children. However, life didn’t go as planned.
"I always dreamt of being with my husband and kids. I wanted it so badly, but I didn’t have it at the time I thought I would. But thank God, we are here," she said.
Career, Relationship Struggles, and Health Challenges
In her early years, Amusa focused intensely on her career, unaware that prioritizing work might affect her ability to have children. She later realized the impact when she struggled with conception, leading to relationship challenges.
"I found myself in semi-marriages that failed because I was unable to conceive at the time, based on their expectations," she revealed.
Medical examinations later showed that Amusa had fibroids and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), conditions that made conception difficult. She described this period as incredibly tough, as she battled health issues alongside societal and personal pressures.
Embracing Motherhood with Gratitude
Despite these struggles, Amusa remains grateful for her journey, embracing motherhood with immense joy and fulfillment. Her story serves as a powerful testament to resilience, perseverance, and the life-changing power of motherhood.
