Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is making efforts to ensure that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu becomes the only candidate on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.
Momodu made the claim on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television. According to him, the APC is using different political strategies in an attempt to weaken the opposition ahead of the next election.
The former presidential aspirant said the fact that the APC currently has 31 governors across the country does not intimidate opposition parties. He insisted that if a general election were held today, the ruling party would lose.
Momodu also criticised how the recent elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils were handled. He questioned the security measures taken during the polls, saying authorities declared a curfew despite the election taking place in a relatively small area.
He further alleged that the FCT Minister played an unusually direct role in the election process, claiming the minister personally supervised polling stations across the city.
According to Momodu, these actions suggest that the ruling party is trying to control the political process. However, he maintained that Nigerians are now more politically aware and that the ADC and other opposition groups are not worried about the situation.
